Constructed as one structure on two plots (4 units total, 25% affordable), all units have their own exterior space, providing an opportunity for interaction between neighbors while providing a comfortable feeling at home while enhancing the local community.
Project location: Boston, Massachusetts
Firm name: Scott Payette Architects with Leupold Brown Goldbach Architekten
Project type: Multi-family Housing
Project information: New construction
Jury comments: Solutions such as E+ Residences need to become the norm, not the exception: design that responds to context while having high performance in a dense urban site and that can be easily replicated and stay within budget. The project provides an all-electric infill building, and it is commendable that outdoor space is provided for all units. The net positive aspect of this project for a smaller residential project also addresses equity for its location, scalability, and approachability. The jury felt that this project deserves a citation—as a residential project—for setting an example for future, sustainable residential projects to follow.
