Project name: Ocean’s Edge
Project overview: Inspired by small, vernacular structures on Martha’s Vineyard, this house is designed as four gabled cottages oriented around a flat-roofed living space. Each cottage contains its own program, including dining area and bedrooms, while encircling the central kitchen and great room. The finished roof deck offers spectacular ocean views.
Project location: Chilmark, Massachusetts
Firm name: Jacob Lilley Architects
Project type: Private Residential

Jury comments: Ocean’s Edge reimagines the vernacular of the small cottage to create a beautiful modern residence. The architect skillfully adapted the diagram and organized the program within four separate cottage volumes connected by a transparent, low volume. The project conveys a clear idea and intent, and is elegantly detailed.
