Project narrative: Through intense collaboration, our team created a project that can serve as a demonstration project for greener and cleaner living. Jury comments: The Jenson-DeLeeuw Net-Zero Energy House is a successful submission with a good narrative case study on purposeful design that values nature, space and energy. It crafted an unique architectural language while articulating its elements to harness, preserve and utilize energy. Its expressive overhangs and roof array take advantage of the sun in an efficient manner while its interior’s super insulated envelope preserve the much needed heat during New England’s winters. The house is tough on the outside and soft on the inside. Its design and craftsmanship made it clear that it is possible to be efficient, resilient and beautiful, balancing the program with client’s needs. This project indeed represents its Citation Award for Energy & Resources.
