Paul Revere House Education & Visitor Center

2019 Accessible Design Awards

Honor Award – William D. Smith Memorial Award

Project name: Paul Revere House Education & Visitor Center

Project location: Boston

Firm name: Mills Whitaker Architects

Jury comments: Two newly accessible floors maintain the integrity of a historic site while broadening its educational and cultural reach. The project isn’t perfect—users must go outside to access the second floor and moments in the courtyard are stepped—but it sets a precedent for creative problem-solving regarding our nation’s historic resources.

Client: Paul Revere Memorial Association

Consultants: HomeCo Remodeling; Acentech; Available Light; Forte Engineering; Harry R. Feldman; H. W. Moore Associates; Johnson Engineering & Design; Koetteritz Land Design; Structures North Consulting Engineers
