Project name: Bethesda Medical Center
Project overview: Bethesda Medical Center in Cap-Haitien, Haiti, is a shelter for women, children, and HIV or TB affected who seek physical and mental health. The design of the campus is off-grid, self-sustaining, and recognizes that it must serve the community regardless of earthquakes, hurricanes, and political turmoil.
Project location: Vaudreuil, Cap Haitien
Firm name: August Green
Project type: Healthcare Center
Project information: New construction
Jury comments: This thoughtful and powerful proposal displays a great deal of sophistication within a simple overall configuration for a much-needed medical campus expansion that will bring communities together and demonstrate commitment to sustainability. The ingenuity is in the details, such as the roof assembly, the subtle variations in courtyards to facilitate unique character within each cluster, and the use of local materials and edible plants. The presentation does an excellent job of conveying those specifics without overwhelming the central concepts of the project.
