Project name: Daniels Building at One Spadina
Project location: Toronto, Ontario
Firm name: NADAAA with Adamson Associates Architects
Jury comments: The way the new Daniels Building integrates into its urban site centered in its historic neighborhood is powerful. The structure is a memorable one — with its roof is at once iconic and functional– incorporating greenery, drawing light into the interior, and capturing stormwater. The organization of the building program is thoughtful and inviting. Grouping spaces that have 24/7 occupancy hours allows for heating and cooling for other areas to be minimized. The common areas are compellingly designed and are flexible in their use, offering places for a variety of gatherings, and welcoming students, faculty, and community members to enjoy the special structure.
