Honor Award
Project name: The National Memorial for Peace and Justice
Project location: Montgomery, AL
Firm name: MASS Design Group
Jury comments: This first memorial honoring more than 4,000 victims of racial lynching evokes our nation’s heavy past by suspending 800 Corten steel monuments, each identifying a county where lynching took place. Little light moves through the space. The memorial’s clarity, its materiality, and dignity inspire reverence and respect.
