Jury comments: The form of this animal research facility is striking. Its undulating zinc roof, which houses an array of mechanical equipment, is a clever tweak on the vernacular barns and silos nearby. The building is divided into two distinct zones, a zinc-wrapped headhouse for human activities, and a concrete biocontainment facility. Some details are not resolved, and we wished we’d seen more of the interior not related to containment, but kudos for doing something different with a building few people will ever use.
