Project name: MIT Sean Collier Memorial
Project location: Cambridge, Massachusetts

Massive stone is used in an unexpected way that creates a beautiful tension with its form. The care and technology required to make this incredibly heavy object sit so lightly on the land is inspiring. The overlay of the constellation that was visible when Mr. Collier died creates a beautiful, emotional moment. We grappled with the number of nooks carved into the form—they’re great for individual reflection, but also disconnect and isolate people.
