Project name: Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital
Project location: Worcester, Massachusetts
Firm name: Ellenzweig in collaboration with architecture+
Jury comments: The plan calls for a residential feel to this intriguing mental health center. The building’s replication of a village-like main street closely imitates life while being obviously false. The scale increases progressively between the “neighborhood” zone and the “downtown” zone. The concept is creative, interesting, and different, but not necessarily well executed throughout. The colors are dully monochromatic, a decision that may be driven by an intent to calm. The project reflects an interesting way to use design in support of a very tough program.
