Jury comments: The palette and material choices of this project make it special. The architect reached out to the Arizona landscape and drew it indoors, to create an interior familiar and comfortable to healthcare workers, patients, and their families. The central and interstitial common spaces celebrate the landscape as well, consistently framing views of mountains and desert. The chapel is a quiet, gorgeous moment. A sustainable project that marries old and new, New Patient Tower and Renovations is an exemplary human-centered design project, a contextual home for healthcare.
