Project name: Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center | Center for Surgical Innovation
Project location: Lebanon, New Hampshire
Firm name: Payette
Jury comments: The plan is dictated by a highly constrained site and steep slope, which also determine the shape of the building. The result is interesting and sculptural. The concrete foundation is expressed as an integrated form which reaches up the sloped site to form a portal defining the main entrance to the hospital. The concrete appears as an extension of the landscape and creates a new language on the existing campus. An upper metal panel enclosure provides a clean, modern aesthetic, giving the exterior a surprising expression of lightness above the concrete base.
