Project name: Health and Social Sciences Building, University of Massachusetts–Lowell
Project location: Lowell, Massachusetts
Firm name: Cambridge Seven Associates
Jury comments: This building is carefully sited to support long-term development of an aging campus and helps define the edge of what will eventually become a new campus green. The mass is simple and works well in its context. Brick details echo the historic campus aesthetic and mill city references. The atrium adds visibility between the vertically separated departments, creating a sense of interconnectivity. Overall the building is very strong, though the main entrance is problematic.
