Honor Award: Campus Planning
Project name: Vietnamese-German University, New Model Campus
Project location: Binh Duong Province, Vietnam
Firm name: Machado and Silvetti Associates
Jury comments:
This plan is impressive, given its overall ambition, scale, and the idea of the academic citadel. Crisp graphics and well-integrated text create a strongly figural campus plan. Although the zoning of the central green space seems too rational, the creation of a dense campus environment that leaves a zone for future development is a thoughtful element. The description of the Field of Dreams, the thoughtfulness of arrival at the campus, and the supple presentation of ideas—with consistent images and sophisticated renderings—takes you right into the space. The vision of a brand new campus with its ambition to grow to 3.5 million square feet, all while creating the case for strong placemaking and density, is crisply presented. Here is a clear story being told, one that is easy to follow. This is good German engineering on a Vietnamese landscape.
