Project narrative: A single pitch monumentalizes the transparent, welcoming façade on Adams Street, while a peaked roof in the rear matches the scale of the residential neighborhood and serves the rain garden. The use of multiple terra-cotta glazes allows the building to respond to its immediate contexts and speak to the history of New England Greek Revival buildings. The stacks and reading areas within are surrounded by a native garden to the south and a reading garden to the north that frames a heritage oak tree saved by the community. The north-south grain of book shelving ensures light and views for all.
