Jury comments: This lab building might not reach the pinnacles of Net Zero Energy or Net Zero Water, but that does not mean strong sustainability features are lacking. The project reuses a significant amount of its stormwater within the building. On the interior, angled roof monitor skylights pull in north light while providing exterior surface area for smartly integrated solar panels. Controls to turn labs off for the night promise energy savings that go beyond the industry standard. With these moves and more, New Science Center proves itself to be a project where climate impact was considered for every component.
