Project name: Linde Center for Music and Learning at Tanglewood
Project location: Lenox, Massachusetts
Firm name: William Rawn Associates, Architects
Jury comments: The Linde Center is sensitively sited, with thoughtful orientations that take advantage of the surrounding landscape. Stunning spaces for learning and performing are woven among the trees, with pathways that guide visitors along on a sort of crescendo. This is a true creative retreat. The simple and elegant structures are open and accessible, making the experience of music more egalitarian. Sustainable strategies are subtly built into the straightforward buildings. This is a special place that offers a prototype for music education and creation, channeling its inspirational context through honest structures, and opening its windows and doors to all.
