Project name: Tozzer Anthropology Building
Project location: Cambridge, Massachusetts
Firm name: Kennedy & Violich Architecture
Jury comments: The Tozzer is an exquisite essay in campus making and architectural craft. Through its innovative repositioning of a traditional building typology and unexpected deployment of materials, the design transcends constraints to create a master class in campus architecture. At once playful and disciplined, its compelling entry beckons people to come in. Inside, the spaces are light and comfortable, offering the Anthropology Department a variety of ways to learn, present, and engage with the community. One is always aware of the outdoors – either the courtyard, the street or the sky – a testament to holistic design thinking.
