Jury comments: Beautifully sited, this academic and residential facility aspires to be an environmentally responsible building while also teaching environmental responsibility. It’s nicely planned to surround a courtyard. The sustainable design strategy incorporates a natural ventilation system, photovoltaic panels, evacuated solar hot water tubes, ground source heating and cooling, heating with waste cooking oil, and an abundance of natural light. We appreciate its utilitarian aspects. The interiors are handsome and minimal, incorporating an extensive natural wood palette that exudes warmth. There is a lot going on in this project. It’s a holistic success.
