Jury Overview

The jury was excited to see several projects succeeding in response to the Framework for Design Excellence. This is a challenging category, as teams may have no control overĀ  school policy. The jury saw many entries with significant reductions in energy consumption, efficient use of low-impact materials, integrated, collaborative design processes with clients, and progressive visions of inclusive and equitable interior space planning. There was a focused need on social and emotional well-being, as well as public safety. The jury was impressed that projects took on these challenges. Learning stairs were seen in many projects, with limited success. We would love to see more projects provide empirical data, and those that did tended to rise to the top for awards.
